The up and coming London-based poet Ray Antrobus runs a blog called “Shapes & Disfigurements“. It’s a good read, generally speaking, but I find one of the sections especially interesting: it’s an ever-growing collection of Q&As with spoken word poets. As an interviewer, Ray manages to keep a very light-hearted and informal tone, and I have enjoyed the series from the beginning, so when he asked me whether I’d be interested in doing one, I was more than happy to oblige. Smoke & Mirrors on Spanish News

Our hold over television screens in the Iberian Peninsula just got stronger: the TVE1 news item about La Noche de los Libros includes a brief mention of the spoken word poetry event which featured, among others, a performance from Smoke and Mirrors. I even appear on screen for about two seconds, around the 1:10 mark, only for the newscaster to say something about “poetas anonimos”, which is good promo if I ever saw any.

Smoke & Mirrors on Portuguese National TV

There were TV cameras present at our Lisbon show, and now we found out why: we were featured in the latest instalment of Câmara Clara, a cultural programme on the national television channel RTP2. You can watch the episode by following this link; the section about the nascent Lisbon poetry slam scene, and our visit to the Music Box, starts around the 49 min mark.

So, national TV! I fully expect paparazzi to show up at my door. Any day now.
