Smoke & Mirrors on Spanish News

Our hold over television screens in the Iberian Peninsula just got stronger: the TVE1 news item about La Noche de los Libros includes a brief mention of the spoken word poetry event which featured, among others, a performance from Smoke and Mirrors. I even appear on screen for about two seconds, around the 1:10 mark, only for the newscaster to say something about “poetas anonimos”, which is good promo if I ever saw any.

Kiss My Ash – Madrid Update

Due to the Icelandic volcano acting up, I am not sure whether the workshops in Alcala and the Smoke & Mirrors show in Madrid will happen or not. I’m currently trying to figure out whether the agency that coordinates the tour has a backup plan.

UPDATE

The ash cloud has shifted! Assuming it doesn’t erupt again in the next 24 hours, both Madrid gigs will take place as planned.

This Smoke & Mirrors show with Dominique Macri, Paula Varjack and Ludwig Berger (and me!) is part of the monumental Noche de Los Libros (Book Night) – a celebration of reading and literature with over 400 events scheduled throughout Madrid. Our appearance there is part of the Noche de Poetry Slam Europeo (European Poetry Slam Night), and will be followed by a poetry slam in Spanish, hosted by MC Elo and Ludovic Assémat.

The event is organised by Noche de Los Libros and the Círculo de Bellas Artes cultural centre, in collaboration with the British Council’s Spanish office.

Taught jointly with Paula Varjack, this workshop is aimed at University of Alcalá graduate students studying for a Master’s degree in EFL teaching. It will focus on ways in which performance poetry can be incorporated in classes, with sections focusing on the writing process and performance skills. The workshop is co-founded by the British Council.
